Why Shelving Inspections and Safety are Important
Workplace safety is always important, and it is crucial that you follow the correct procedures so that you are your business comply with the laws and regulations. As well as carrying out the necessary safety inspections on your shelving, there are other shelving accessories you can add to ensure extra safety.
Why an Inspection is Important
The main reason an inspection is important is obviously safety, and to be safe your storage system must comply with the HSE legislation’s. To comply with the guidelines, the HSE require a person to carry out in-house inspections and an annual expert inspection that is done by a ‘Technically Competent’ person.
The end user inspection should be a weekly or monthly check from an in-house employee that is qualified with a PRRS (Person Responsible for Racking Safety). This person should have completed the SEMA rack awareness course as well.
An expert inspection should be carried out at intervals of no more than 12 months by a qualified SEMA approved Racking Inspector (SARI) who is recognised as ‘Technically Competent’ by the HSE.
Regular inspections offer many benefits; you won’t just be complying with the HSE legislation, but it will also dramatically reduce racking related incidents, lower overall maintenance costs as well as promoting health and safety in the workplace.

There are many other safety precautions you can take to increase the safety of your workplace.
